Skim Coat SC-333

Pre-mixed Skim Coat (SC-333)

Application Instructions
 1. Skim Coat on Concrete Surface
  • Add water into plastic mixing bucket, followed by SC-333 approximate  5-6 liters of water. Then mix with a drilled mixer for consistency of mixtures.
  • Use steel  trowel to apply skim coat for the required thickness (1-5 mm)
  • Apply first coat to cover full surface; wait till the render is dry, then repeat the next coat(s) until the finished surface is smooth (no visible mark/trace of uneven surface).  In order to obtain smooth surface, more fluidity of mortar shall be prepared for top coat so that finishing can be easily applied.
  • Note: if the work is performed by skilled workers, No further sanding should be needed. If the surface needs further smoothing, however, it can be finished by fine(#600-1000) sanding paper 24 hours after completion of skim coat.
 2. Smooth finishing on rough surface of plastering wall

Rough/uneven surface of plastering wall can be smoothened using SC-333 to skim on rough surface by either process as follows:-

2.1 Damp surface First step is plastering. Trowel (sand+cement) mortar on clay brick/block wall till the required thickness is covered. Use straightedge to scrape the excess of mortar on plastering wall so that the wall is plumb. Fill any low spots with mortar and repeat the same process until the wall is level/flat.

Note: Second step of normal process is using wood float and following with sponge float and removing loose sand on wall surface by broom. After plastering is dry, the wall surface will be rough texture

Skip the second step and wait till the damp mortar starts to set (test by pressing the surface with finger, if the surface is no mark of dent from the surface of mortar, then the surface is ready to apply skim coat). Apply skim coat SC-333 using steel trowel for smoother finishing. 
Apply first coat to cover the rough texture of sand. Wait till the first coat starts to set, then apply final coat to smoothen the surface. Skim coat performed by skilled worker will be smooth such that there will be no visible mark of uneven surface, in which case further sanding is not necessary.

2.2 Dry surface


o  Uneven/rough surface on plastering wall of lightweight block (AAC&CLC), clay brick and concrete block can be smoothened by top coat with SC-333 for fine finishing surface.

o  Apply first skim coat to cover the rough texture of sand. Wait till the first coat starts to set (press by finger and no mark/dent), then apply final coat to smooth surface finishing. Skim coat performed by skill worker will be smooth such that there will no visible mark of uneven surface, in which case further sanding is not necessary.



Follow above instructions and trimming on edge/corner ofdecorating GRC/Pre-cast piece attached to wall/column.

3.    Repair of crack on plastering wall
  • Hair cracks can be repaired and covered up by skim coat 3-4 coats. Ensure that each layer of skim coat is dry before applying the next coat.
  • Larger cracks shall be repaired by cutting crack area for V-shape before patching. Then mix DURABONDER (increase bonding & elasticity): SC-333: water approximate at ratio 1:1: 0.25 by weight and blending by drilled mixer for patching crack. PU sealant can also be used for crack patching. Wait till patching area is completely dry prior to subsequent skim coats as per afore-mentioned instructions.


4.    Thin Coat on Light Weight Block Wall (AAC & CLC)

  • Mix one bag of SC-333 with approx. 5 liters of water by drilled mixer for consistency of mixtures. 
  • Patch between laying blocks to cover up the joints so that thin coat can be applied by steel/plastic trowel.
  • Follow mixing and skim coat instructions as per above instructions 1
  • Smooth finished surface can be obtained by using SC-333 for thin coat on AAC and CLC light-weight block wall.  SC-333 (particles size 325 mesh/0.045 mm) provides better appearance on surface finishing than using regular pre-mixed mortar which contained coarser sand/crushed stone (particles size 30 mesh/ 0.6mm), and hence more cost effective.
